Draught Sealing Consultation (Level 2)

Did you know that Air leakage (draughts) can account for 15 to 25 per cent of winter heat loss in buildings?

Draught proofing is one of the cheapest and most efficient ways to save energy in any type of building, from a flat to a mansion – but it’s often overlooked.

Draughts occur when warm air rises and is replaced by cooler air entering through cracks and gaps in your home. Living in a home that is not draught proof is why we spend huge sums of money on heating and are still cold in winter.

All homes leak air. Even with all the windows and doors closed, outside air will still enter your home, circulate and leave by another path. We need to seal our homes tightly and you need to control ventilation so it occurs when and where you want it. Note that every home must have air changes otherwise our homes would become stale, mouldy and result in poor air quality - but this should be in your control.(More info below)

Draught Proofing Consultation with Air Leakage (Blower door) Test

A more comprehensive audit of your buildings air leakage includes our standard Draught Proofing Consulation combined with a blower door test. The consulation takes around 2 to 3 hours.

If Ecomad are used to seal draughts in your home, then a blower door test will be also be conducted after completion of the service. If you seal your house based on our report and would like another blower door test to determine how well your sealing job has been, the cost is for a re-test and basic report only. (Please contact us for pricing).

Remember that paybacks are short for draught sealing.

After the initial blower door test, there may be time for Ecomad to provide a draught sealing service. This can be arranged on the day and you can choose what you would like done - full or partial sealing. When making your booking, please indicate if you may or may not require this service. The building sealing service is subject to time (other jobs), and materials on hand. Costs will be provided to you prior to commencement of work.

Common leaks include exhaust fans, wall vents, downlights, doors, windows, chimneys and evaporative coolers (without dampers). There are usually cracks around doors, windows, skirting boards, cornices and floorboards and you need to watch out for gaps around internal doors to heated areas and ventilated rooms such as bathrooms or toilets.

Most people can seal the majority of leaks by themselves for very little money. Our consultation will show you how and products can be purchased from Ecomad or hardware stores which sell a wide range of draught-excluders, weather-strips, caulking compounds and fillers. Fixing draughts is the cheapest and easiest way to save energy in your home and the paybacks are short. For best results, our comprehensive draught proofing consultation and a retrofitting service will still have short payback periods. And besides, what price can you put on comfort?

Part of our draught proofing service involves an inspection of your ceiling insulation (if required). Uncontrolled draughts will reduce the effectiveness of your home's insulation. Combined, draught proofing and ceiling insulation will make a huge impact on your energy bills and importantly - your comfort.
